The letter, signed by 27 state financial officers, urges President Biden to support traditional energy production in the United States, and prioritize the needs of American taxpayers over the needs of special interest groups.
SFOF points out that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a stark reminder of the fragility of the energy ecosystem. If U.S. energy production is not unleashed to its full potential, then the U.S. economy will continue to be reliant on countries with agendas that differ from U.S. interests.
“The Biden Administration seems hell-bent on destroying American domestic energy while boosting reliance on adversaries like Russia, Iran, and Venezuela,” said John Murante, State Treasurer of Nebraska and SFOF National Chair. “It’s time for the Biden Administration to step up and prioritize America’s energy interdependence for the sake of our economy and our national security.”
The letter criticizes President Biden for pushing a partisan agenda with no regard for the free market’s ability to adapt during a time of international unrest, and notes that oil, gas, coal, and nuclear are currently the most reliable and plentiful baseload power sources for America and much of the rest of the world.
“As Americans across the country are grappling with rising inflation and paying more for gas than ever before, the time for action from President Biden and his administration is now,” said Derek Kreifels, CEO of SFOF. “Americans should not have to bear the burden of Biden’s anti-energy agenda.”
